A holiday doesn’t automatically guarantee rest. It’s convenient and easy to tell ourselves that a change of scenery, a change of pace, or a change of country will give us rest, but the problem with going on holiday is that you take yourself with you. If your soul isn’t at rest, then your holiday won’t help.

So I say “yes” to going on holiday – I’m going on mine tomorrow. But I want to say a bigger “yes” to the one who can produce rest within me. When we trust our Heavenly Father, let go of the steering wheel, look up, stop striving, take a few deep breaths, let His presence calm our busy souls – then we can really rest. Rest requires trust.
